Daniel Moisan’s more experimental work where he’s just exploring type for future projects such as the one below is really interesting to me as he combines the use of angles and curves. I can see inspiration from gothic fonts such as Blackletter in the way this type resembles calligraphy as you can see the movement and the way the font was written. This is exemplified by his use of highlights and shadows to create a 3D effect.
Braulio Amado often works with curves as Daniel Moisan however his poster in which he uses regular square grids and distorts it by pinching it interests me the most as he still works within the grid system however challenges it slightly. It looks as if he had written the font out on the normal grid and then distorted it.

Looking at the work of designers such as Daniel Moisan and Braulio Amado, I began to think about how I could push my work further by altering the grid so that there would still be a system but I could explore typography that is curved or distorted.
To explore this I moved the grid paper while scanning to create a wavy and distorted grid that still follows the grid system. I experimented with this and then chose to redraw some of my personal favourite typefaces that I find either challenges the grid but still sticks to a system or challenges typographic anatomy such as keeping the cap-height and x-height the same. I also chose to redraw the blackletter as blackletter uses a lot of angles, the pixel font as pixels follow a strict grid, and the typeface in which I fill only half the squares in.
