Study Task 5 - Using Grids for Screening Poster

Original poster - using a grid system to make up the large A0 poster. We layered two chosen original poster designs with a separate image as a source for the collage which was the computer screens. The type hierarchy in this is the title as it's largest, boldest and juxtaposes with the otherwise mostly dark background.

Multicolumn Grid - experimenting with having text only occupy some space while images that aren't clear occupy the rest. the eye is forced towards the fully dark lower right corner as it's most juxtaposed which is effective as even though the text is small, the information it provides is most important (the room and date of the screening) therefore using the multicolumn grid as a way of distorting and setting the information hierarchy to text that would otherwise be ignored.

This experimentation with grids is very experimental as we ignored all rules of hanglines, baselines and fixed structures and used a free layout to explore the chaotic and distorted elements that are the focus of our poster design to represent the documentary. This worked really well as it's quite interesting however I prefer a fixed structure as it relates to the rules of coding that is the bases of Josh's success in the documentary.

This was another more experimental approach where we focused in on the idea of distortion and ignored fixed grid rules however it's more structured as the images stayed on straight lines and parts of it such as the bottom row comes off of a baseline.
