Toofprints and Oripeau

Toofprints

"A side project exploring graphic design in a public space "
"Graphic design work that is typographic and pertaining to your native language or dialect is encouraged. The one rule is that the poster(s) should be black & white ONLY. If there is bleed, please include crop marks. Everything else is up to you — content, theme, etc. Also, please remember that the space is public. Poster(s) will be printed on white bond paper."

  • usually type based
  • original typefaces
  • strong use of grid systems
  • W50 3/4"x H39 1/2" concrete slab, fitting up to two W25 3/8"x H39 1/2"

Oripeau

"Urban Space 16 200 cm² display panel seeking visuals to be seen. "

  • usually image-based
  • images often made up using grid systems (pixel art?)
  • type images often make references to images
  • merging patterns
  • W175cm x H91cm. You do not need to cover the entire panel (like everyone else). Feel free to experiment with something new.

Ficciones Typografika / Erik Bandt

Dedicated to exploring typography in public space - its effects.
"The poster was made for people, to be viewed at a human scale, intimately and also from a distance. It's a medium entirely devoted to life as a human, however distant that concept has become in our world."
The point of exploring typography in public spaces is to design work that is meant to be viewed in a larger scale as the work is then evident up close and from a distance. Exploring how that public space will affect the meaning of your poster or how will a viewer understand it?
"The project offers a platform for type and graphic designers to create one-off experiments to be produced as posters"
one-off experiments is interesting to explore as it suggests that this work may only be able to work in this context or its an experiment into how it translates in a public space

conceptual approaches to exploring theme
his theme is humour, image and text work together to suggest "f-bomb" text seems to imitate pronunciation rather than grammar - affects how viewer understands it
use of two posters and grids affecting how it's read (current mood... but i won't") is this a problem? could two images work together
