Text and Image Poster Development

My idea for this is based on images of excessive amounts of plastic waste from news resources which is a common theme when bringing attention to marine pollution. During the crit there was a notable response to these images and I personally like the idea of negative space within the image. In the crit, peers and the tutors really liked the plastic bottle typeface I was beginning to develop therefore I thought of combining it within an image of plastic waste to act as both image and text as it would relate to the image.

The layout of the text is to imitate the plastic bottles being stacked ontop of each other, and therefore is irregular with no rigid structure however I wanted it to be legible therefore instead of completely displacing all the text, "more" is out of place in comparison to the rest of the text which is generally uniform.

Cutting out the puddle to act as negative space and to allow for the image of fish to be combined. It allows the text to be placed within water such as bottles just floating in a puddle. Began using bitmap in circles as it's more organic, relating to the idea of nature in contrast with plastic waste. Multiply layer style isn't as successful as the image becomes too busy however effective in suggesting the bottles being in water as it's transparent therefore should continue exploring layer styles.

The subtract layer style allows the bottles to be clearer and darker suggesting their contamination as there's a sense of chaos and the contrast connotes the idea that it is unnatural.

Without the imagery of the fish/ocean, the image works together as it still suggests the idea of toxicity however the use of fish/ocean imagery relates more to the quote and I rather continue exploring transparency.

Text is the focal point and there is an ambiguous figure/ground relationship within the background as the fish is slightly clear however it's placed behind the bottles setting it as the background.

Stacked text works with images of bottles however takes too much attention away as there's a strong contrast.

Left aligned and varying colours (based on the images I took of the text) - experimenting with making it easier to read however takes away from the stacking idea and the idea of making text part of the image.

Repeated "plastic" surrounding "fish" to emphasise what's happening within the image and relate it more to image. Changing the focal point using just tone - does fish need to be emphasised to bring attention to the importance of it or does plastic need to be emphasised to imply its weight and issue?

Using text to replace the bottle imagery as it's made up of bottles. Repeated bottles to make it legible. Fixed structure allowing it to be easier to read. "More" is a widow which affects the flow of the overall design however this could be used to contrast the school of fish as their movement is very organic.
Using displacement to create a chaotic stacked effect of bottles conveying their chaos.

Overall, I am interested in the last two type layout however I wanted to explore using impactful and simple ideas to bring attention to the issue - need peer feedback on which works best.
