Design For Screen - Initial Ideas

The key themes and elements I need to carry on from Studio Brief 1 is the idea that what I am trying to achieve is conveying to the reader/viewer a physical experience. In books, this is providing them with interactivity, textural elements, colourful impact, and more physical approaches to processes.

The aim was to effectively choose things that can't be conveyed through screen however as this is Design for Screen, this could translate as looking into potential outcomes that push the boundaries of conventional/everyday screen design (apps, general websites.)

I think a good approach in directly relating both briefs is to stick to the target audience as aiming at students, or more particularly art students, affected my liberal experimentations and considerations of cost for my Design for Print therefore should probably affect my Design for Screen as well.

Augmented Reality
From the brief recap presentation, I found a potential outcome that seemed much more interesting and relevant to my theme which was the AR project by Lucienne Roberts for Non-Pavillion. The installation was to be looked through a screen and placed augmented reality objects to imitate architectural development as a way of moving people away from the need for over-consumption as the large, quite hectic and bright AR shapes represent issues relating to this and therefore place the viewer within an atmosphere that would allow them to reconsider their thoughts.

Short description of ‘design for screen’ (purpose): An augmented reality installation/app that recognises space and placed items that would be in shared living spaces such as beds, surfaces, sofas and randomly generates an item to digitally place on that recognised space. The lack of control over what’s in the space is what relates to my brief. The item could also just be shapes and symbols as with Lucienne Robert's installation and could represent the positives, negatives and neutrals of shared living to the user.

Low-fidelity wireframes: The first wireframe is more a sketch that's been flushed out which explores the idea of using more conceptual shapes instead of actual items when in camera mode on an app to show how the the augmented shapes could stand out and communicate an idea to the user.

The second wireframe is what the homepage of the app would look like - the layout itself would be quite simple to not overcrowd the smaller screen of a phone, and allow the user experience to be easy and accessible. There would be a logo, and minimal text summarising what this app is about to remind the user to think about shared living experiences, and then the button to go to camera mode.

There would also be a drop down menu that would include a more detailed about, and explanation behind the symbols as done with Lucienne Robert's AR installation. Another idea would be to also include a sign up/profile option to post their experience with shared living or the app on a forum but I don't think this is too necessary for the idea.

Website
Although a website doesn't seem like the most effective way of relating to my studio brief 1 and communicating the theme of physical experiences as a website is very screen based, an idea is to explore interactive websites as a place for the target audience to share images of their shared living spaces, or create a digital representation of what it's like sharing a space similar to the AR idea as it would be conceptual.

Inspired by the A-Frame website, my website would be interactive, informative and also have links to a community based page (the forum.)
The instagram desktop website is also a good reference for what I think the forum/community page would seem as it's minimal, allowing for it to be accessible and easy to use however I could make this much more exciting with colour schemes and animations.

Installation/Projection Mapping
Based on quick feedback from Orlando, both my initial ideas don't really explore the idea of providing users with a physical experience as I focus on in my book, therefore exploring the idea of immersing people in a space that they don’t have control over is a good way to move forward - need to think of an idea where people have to share something to interact?
