Manipulate Images Workshop Outcomes

Initially I didn't know what to do with my images and experimented with scale and distribution of items but scaling up small objects I found in my living room from my initial research and placing them where they were found to convey a sense of mess/lack of control in a living space but the image wasn't very clear and didn't represent the idea of sharing more.

I then took the idea of scaling the found objects and instead of placing them against an image of the living room, I just collaged them then experimented with Photoshop layer effects as that's something that cannot be achieved with physical collaging. The third image is the most successful in my opinion as it looks like an idea of what I can achieve using other print processes like layering screenprinting, risograph and normal printing to create another type of collage to continue the idea of different personalities sharing a space.

Continued the idea of using Photoshop layer effects as a way of representing different methods and simplified it then placed it bordering an image of the living room to create a direct connection and also to convey the layer effects against a plain background and an image, and also to link the objects to the room. I like this idea as it communicates these ideas but also keeps the focus on the idea of a shared space, and I prefer the lighter version as it shows the true form of the objects more clearly, and communicates a more positive voice as it's brighter. This tone also matches the off-white paper I aim to use throughout the book.

Using my grid, I initially placed images just to fit within the constraints which was interesting as the sections with more restraints showed only part of the image which forces me to consider which parts I want to show and what that conveys. The images are also cut up and mixed into each section to follow the constrains of the grid as there are many sections within one rectangle (based on the distribution of items in my living room), and this combination of images creates a new shared space.
I prefer the lighter coloured background as it communicates a more positive voice and allows for the images to be clearer and the contrast of the black background makes it harder for the reader to understand the images.
I then applied the same method however used images from peers, as based from feedback with Helena to exaggerate the idea of sharing. I asked them to share images of their living space or whatever space they want to experiment with not being in as much control of my outcomes as it's the idea of sharing.
I think this is a very successful idea as the process reflects the theme of the book, and should be applied to a lot more content.
These images were the leftover parts from the previous test, and in the first image I left it as they were placed automatically to continue the idea of having a lack of control over the outcome whereas in the second I moved them to allow the images to be more clear and focus in on the idea of the lack of control over the content rather than layout. I prefer the first image as the production of it is much more relevant.
