Collaboration Update
Discussed with Millie to stop wasting effort and waiting on a response from Amelia, even if there was one it would be too late therefore take into own hands.
Choosing Fabric
I went to Kirkgate Market as its a market full of multicultural stalls, and I would be able to find fabrics that resemble the vintage Syrian textiles. I chose a doyle and a embroidered flag as a way of repurposing something that seems historical, bring an issue that's been building throughout history back to the current timeline. Contemporising the historical issues as a way of bringing attention back to it.
Outcomes
I'm really pleased with the outcome. The paint did not sit well on the doyle as the fabric is extremely synthetic however the bitmap and image is still clear enough. The faded effect adds to the historical elements. The most successful is the flag - the image is of a gate that blocks out refugees in Greece and relates directly to the book. The bold bitmap creates the impact I was aiming for, and the merging with the embroidery explores the idea of merging societies positively again.
