Rationale Draft

Name - Rag Type
Key Words - Digital, Pixel, Physical, Traditional, Quirky
  • it’s designed for the sole purpose of knitting. introducing digital through traditional. simplified so that it is accessible yet still conveys theme.
  • a booklet with examples and the font’s general rules. will have instructions on how to create different letters.
  • 11 grids high max which is 22 rag rug grids but the loop counts as 1. and 1 grid wide.
  • it was difficult to come up with a very consistent font as knitting can be irregular depending on how and where the loop is placed. the font had to be simple so that everyone could do it however needed to have elements to convey what it is. i would have preferred my typeface to have a shorter cap height but the way it translates from the rag rug grid to the grid on illustrator changes it quite alot.
  • cap height and ascender equal and much heigher than it is wide. sans serif - less traditional - modernist? . visiblr pixels. uses the same shapes in many fo the letters especially for curves such as the counter of the e and s match the terminal of the c. the shoulder of the n h and m all use the same shapes too. they are bold too.
  • these make my typeface look very quirky and fun as even though they are pixelated they are bold and give the impression that they are meant to be rounded.
  • looking at the thing in the book and the fun that comes with expressing digital in a traditional theme and that my kit was meant to be for all ages i tried to keep it simple and accessible
  • my typeface as its meant to only be used for knit as the way it looks knitted is more true to its form can be used to introduce older ppl to the digital (educational), introduce younger kids to traditional, or as branding for any textiles businesses.
