Themes and Rules
There is a lot of repetition in this song as the main focus of this is more the sound effects and the overall theme of distress and disjointedness as it takes a comfortable tune that was common in pop music at the time, but brings in lyrics that are vague and ominous. The main verse has a layout of

A, A + (A), B, C + (C ), C, D + (D), D, E + (E), E, A + (A), A, B

Therefore there is no real fixed rule that it follows however there almost is as it nearly follows the idea of AA, B, CC, D, etc. The disjointedness of the rule relates to the song and emphasis the distress Joe Meek was aiming to connote with this song. How can I bring this idea of distress to my project?

Themes and Rules
There is a a lot of repetition in this song as well and generally all throughout Experimental Pop as its taking the element of repetition in Pop as a way for the music to be memorable and simple. However this Sophie pushes this concept a bit further by slightly changing the repeated (and therefore memorable) verses so that it still has that element of accessibility however isn't as boppy and easy to sing along to. The lyrics are vague and don't make alot of sense and along with the distorted music it can overall be distressing yet still is accessible as dance music. The layout of the song is

A, B, C, A, D, C, A, E, A, F, F

This conveys the element of taking conventional themes of Pop and experimenting with it as it almost follows the general pop music structure of

A,B,A,B,C,B (Verse / Chorus / Verse / Chorus / Bridge / Chorus) 
and 
A,B,C,A,B,C,D,C (Verse / Pre-Chorus / Chorus / Verse / Pre-Chorus / Chorus / Bridge / Chorus).

It's most similar to the second layout however includes extra elements such as an extra bridge and the repeated verses at the end which are just slightly different and more clashing versions of the verse/chorus. *No distinction on which verse is what.

  • Lyrics work hand in hand with rhythm/sound effects - usually the rhythm is most important or the lyrics become part of the beat.
