Final book cover development

In response to the research on themes that are relatable but not too obvious to the book, i decided to approach my book cover with the theme of a science class chalkboard.
starting point from my idea in response to crits - idea of handwritten / original typeface ontop of chalkboard to represent the main concept of school and auggie's interest in science class. another way of approaching his interest in space while avoiding the more obvious approach by conveying a space helmet.
using typeface within the context - main idea of repetition / showing where the typeface originated as it creates the atmosphere of science/maths. bolder stroke ontop of fine strokes - soft apexes vs sharp
initial idea with chalkboard texture as background and main shape being used as containment for back cover text - this needs most improvement as it's unbalanced with the front cover.
trying to balance front and back cover by adding the pattern to back to declutter the front, then emphasising idea of chalk with an image of them however it also looks like cigarettes.
a more simpler approach to not overcomplicate
applying chalk to all main text - didn't add on spine as it's not as legible. do not like the bold chalk especially on back cover as it looks clunky and takes away from everything
getting rid of the bulky chalk back cover - more effective as it's simplistic however the image is still ineffective as it can be interpreted in different ways and maybe the book cover is too simple? it's inconsistent as only the title is in chalk and there's a big disconnect with back and front.
applying the pattern to back and front - it's interesting but too overcomplicated with the chalk.
i like the overall pattern with the text however the back cover needs a more interesting layout and it's possibly too cramped therefore using the pattern is limiting.
