Study task 8 - colour theory

Colour affects the overall personality of a piece of work and how a consumer would perceive it as it's expressive and affects mood. Colour theory references how colours mix and work together when combined.
complimentary colours - purple and yellow compliment each other therefore there is no strong juxtaposition or clashing within the cover design however it's enough to allow each colour to stand out.
in the RGB additive colour theory blue and yellow are complimentary therefore still work together and there is a contrast that allows for the book cover to stand out but is appealing to the eye. Johannes itten
using just purple to change the overall mood that my normal black and white design - this creates a softer look as the purple is a soft colour that connotes dreamlike elements. it's not as vibrant or appealing as it was with the yellow as that's complimentary however it still affects the mood. the purple does not allow the chalkboard element to be as obvious.
these colours combined with the pattern explore the theme of halloween which is a main plotline in the story. takes way from the chalkboard however you can still see elements of it. the orange and black clash as it's a vibrant colour against black which makes it very eyecatching. black and orange will always change the perception of the viewer to think of halloween.
bringing in the element of complimentary colours with juxtaposition. the blue and orange compliment each other therefore they're vibrant and eye catching while the gradient to black emphasises this more.
complimentary colours to create contrast - instead of a lighter blue, the navy creates the strong juxtaposition that the black previously did with the orange as it's a different brightness to it. these colours connote energy (orange) and mystery (dark blue). possibly not most appropriate for the book.
