OUGD504 SB2 Briefing

Design for Screen
29/11/19

Responding to your findings and direction from studio brief 1, create an immersive and engaging screen based user experience for a media of your choice. This could include;
a projection, website, streaming service, app etc

Studio brief 1 is your starting point; how does this experience translate or exist on screen.
Your brief from sb1 is the exact same brief for this one - could be a digital version of that book.
Apps can be restricting so need to move away from that.

Have to identify:

How can you maximise the potential of digital devices?
  1. the target audience - this could be the same as SB1.
  2. the overarching aim of the project - what are you trying to achieve with this UE?
  3. the form of the screen - phone, laptop, etc.
Considerations - is this global? Digital formats are global and this should inform your decisions.
Mixed media - combination of image, audio and video - revisit initial research for SB1. This content is already done.

To consider:
  • How do people use technology in relation to your theme?
  • How and Do people discuss your location using technology?
  • Do they post images of it? this could be a connection of how they communicate it using a theme?
  • Do they complain about it?
  • What platforms do they use?
  • Are there debates or issues relating to your technology and your theme? '- could the eco and cost effective approach with risographing clash with using technology?
  • Should you focus just one part of your work from the book for this new brief? - doesn't have to encompass the whole theme, this could be a theme that emerged from your book.
  • What's different from a book? What can you experience on a screen that can't be translated in a book? - moving images, gifs, online communicating, etc.
  • Don't keep everything fixed - having 3D elements and moving type is out of the boundaries of what could be done in the book.
Potential outcomes:
  • website
  • interactive installation
  • AR
  • VR
  • digital book
  • projection mapping
  • projections at an event
  • interactive identities
  • kinetic typography
  • immersive screen-based experience Film
  • app – think innovative.
You should aim to:
  • Make informed decisions about the practical development and production of your ideas.
  • Make informed decisions about the practical development and production of your ideas.
  • Develop appropriate strategies for the investigation of design solutions to set problems.
  • Produce increasingly professional resolutions through the use of established studio practices.
  • Challenge the boundaries of what is achievable from a position of understanding. By understanding the basic principles this will help ensure that your message is delivered and the ‘end-user’ is satisfied as intended.
