Design Boards

6 Design Boards as usual are to be submitted - need to remember to show as many images as possible to show the development of the project and evidence of the processes used.

1. Rationale
2. Research
3. Initial Ideas
4. Development
5. Final Outcome
6. Evaluation

The explanation of your process throughout your design boards should be linear - it should tell the story from when you started to the end.
You should include every part of the projects including mistakes and the reality of the project.
In large amounts of text, make sure key points are highlighted clearly so that the story of your project makes sense.
Keep the text concise - get straight to the point. Explain, analyse, evaluate why things were done efficiently.
Double check against the learning outcomes to ensure you have covered everything that gets assessed.

Rationale
  • Images of the final brief sheets - do not include the past or initial brief sheets. These should be evidence on blog.
  • Rationale should explain why this brief - the summer project and ideas and how this built up to the final rationale and outcome.
  • Critical Engagement
Research
  • Include the most relevant research that has actually had an effect on the outcome
  • Research methods that apply - how did these translate/affect my project
  • Primary, conceptual, contextual
  • 5A5 Demonstrate an informed understanding of issues relating to information, media, format and context through the delivery of solutions to identified design problems. (Knowledge and understanding) (Research)
Initial Ideas
  • Sketches, tests, mind maps - your initial thoughts.
  • Workframes
  • The multiple avenues the brief could have followed
  • Size, layout, content, colour etc.
Development
  • This could be split into 2 boards but try not to do 3 - you want to avoid over-explaining as you have your blogs to back things up.
  • First board could be your experimentations – did you explore a range of your initial ideas?
  • Second board is the more focused development on the 1 chosen idea
  • Images and captions – evidence your development.
  • If needed, a third board could be focused on the production process.
  • Aim of development...what were you trying to achieve? What worked? What didn't? Why did it and why did it not?
  • For SB1, should briefly cover content development but not too much as this should be evidenced on blogs and isn't the main focus - production is.
  • Significant changes to ideas should be on development boards.
  • Evidence and evaluate all production processes
  • 5A6 Understand the potential and limitations of the technologies and processes used in the production of design for print and screen based delivery. (Knowledge and understanding) (Critical awareness / technical competence)
Final Outcome
  • Evaluating development
  • Refinement (evaluate this as well)
  • Photographed/evidenced professionally - need to show key areas that communicate its purpose and my ideas.
  • SB2 - Professional mockup prototypes - how will it be shown/work?
Evaluation
  • Reflecting on brief (not module) – what worked what didn’t.
  • Opportunity to evaluate potential and limitations of production methods. (Potential limitations of facilities) Include issues with Risograph printer accessibility here
  • Any bumps in the road - how were these overcome/resolved and what have I learned from this?
  • Compare to initial brief
Remember:
  • Make sure the resolution is 300+ otherwise the text won't be visible
  • Upload each design board page as an individual JPEG.
  • Need to attach and import the files to make sure they can be clicked and maximized.
TOP TIP: EVIDENCE HOW YOU HAVE MET EACH LEARNING OUTCOME.
