Collaboration
I chose to collaborate with Millie in L6 Graphic Design as the collaboration with Amelia was really small as she discussed her time issues, and her strengths, and the collaboration with Antoine seemed unsteady. Millie would take a more hands on approach to the project, and it would be a much more collaborative effort. We established that her strengths lie more in the Art Director style - forming ideas together and helping in setting up the document as I'm not experienced in printing perfect bound books. My role would be much heavier, I would produce all the content and form all the research however the ideas would be generated together.
I initially told Millie that as her schedule was so busy, and I had both Amelia and Antoine on board, that her collaborative part could be quite small. I thought it would be more along the lines of creating some content as the other collaborators were however as her strengths are what I am weaker in, it become a larger collaboration.
Plan
Based on my conceptual and contextual, and the feedback I had gotten from the crits, we stuck with exactly my idea and decided on how to develop ideas. We established each others strengths and purposes in the collaboration; Millie has a very busy schedule and only had one week (the week before the deadline) to fully dedicate to the project therefore I would do a lot of the work and then occasionally have meetings to check up on how everything is developing.
The themes established were to focus on textiles, produce, family photos, and a flora theme. I wanted this natural theme as a reminder of the idea of humanity, and the importance migration has to human history. Based on some of my visual references I saved on Are.na and the feedback to focus on mixed media the plans were:
- Develop a stamp: Lino or laser cut.
- Stamp would be used as a key - map references
- Imagery: family, textiles, produce, flora, scans
- Layout: Map and passport inspired
- Collect newspaper articles, flowers, recycled paper
- Perfect bind book - play on magazines/mass produced.
- Develop earth tones colour palette.
