Study Task 7 - Typogateaux

This brief is an individual or group project with the task of modifying a homemade or bought cake with some form of relation to typography. This could be:
  • Cakes shaped as letterforms.
  • A typeface that you make a homage to.

Initial Ideas:

  • A question mark - this glyph is interesting as it's curve is what distinguishes it from other similar glyphs such as the exclamation point and its curves are often kept as a rule throughout many typefaces. It would be interesting to find a distinct typeface in which the question mark's curve has altered depending on the rules set by the typeface, and produce that with a cake and see how recognisable the form is as a question mark.
  • A grid in which the blocks can be put back in to create letterforms - this is really interesting and relates heavily to studio brief 1 in ougd403 however it's overcomplicated and the brief asks for one form.
  • Blackletter - creating a single letterform from the Lucida Blackletter typeface would be interesting as the typeface itself is really delicate and distinct - many angles combined with curves and occasionally decorative elements such as the dot placed in the uppercase letters with counters.
