Group Crit Feedback & Plan

Feedback
  • Information on page migrating - things are linked and move across the page
  • Tom Joyes Methaven design studios migration project
  • References to animal migration research
  • Focus on mixed media
  • Swap works with her focus on collabs (let her produce work, you produce work then switch them/trade them and add to it)
  • Focus just on publication as u need this to be really well produced - don't need another project
  • References to animals migrating less personal real makes it relatable and sympathetic
  • Propose the rest of the book collection if this were a series - don't have to create them
  • Textiles/flag is a good idea - maybe make a brand as migrant journal did? work on this
Overall, initial feedback was good, and assured that I should continue with just the migration brief. I was advised to just focus on this brief as the idea was strong and large enough to take up all my time and that the publication would need to be really well produced and professional.

Moving Forward
  1. Based on the feedback, I should just continue focusing on the Migration brief, and trying to make it as big and refined as possible. Helena believes this can be something I can continue and develop outside of university, therefore I don't need to focus on the music brief as well. Especially as I'm not as interested in it, and my ideas for it are similar to my Migration brief.
  2. Tell designers I'm collabing with about the feedback, especially talking with textiles based collaber (Amelia) about positive responses to creating flags however uncertainty around its purpose. I initially think having a flag that relates to migration in general to create a brand similar to Migrant Journal.
  3. Contextual Research. To create this publication, I need to make sure my facts are true, and that I have enough information to create multiple pages.
  4. Practical and Conceptual Research. As this is going to be my first proper publication with text and images, I need to research into how other designers have approached books, and how they presented the information especially. For conceptual research, since I already have a strong theme, I should focus on understanding how other designers have translated their themes into type, layout and other design choices.
